Frequently asked questions

How do I start a game?

Tap Start a game on the Home screen, or the + button in the top-right. Choose a scoring template (or keep Custom), give the game a name, pick who is playing, set the rules, then tap Start game. You can also tap Play on any template in the Templates tab.

How do I add players?

Open the Players tab and tap +. Give the player a name and choose an emoji and colour. You can also tap Add inside the New Game screen; new players are saved to your roster for next time.

How do teams work?

In New Game, set Play as to Teams. Name each team and use the person button to assign players (up to six teams). A team's score is the combined total for that team, while each member's individual wins are still counted in their player statistics.

How do I enter or change a round?

During a game, tap Add round, type each participant's points or use the − and + steppers, and tap Save. Copy last fills in the previous round's scores. Tap any saved round to edit it, use its context menu to delete it, or choose Undo last round from the game menu.

How do I finish a game?

Tap Finish in the top-right of an active game and confirm. Pointly saves the final standings and every round to History, then shows the results screen where you can share the standings or tap Done. You need at least one saved round before you can finish.

Can I change the scoring rules mid-game?

Scoring direction, negative scores and the round target are chosen when you start a game. To change them, finish or discard the current game and start a new one with the rules you want. Templates are a quick way to reuse the same setup.

Do I need an account or an internet connection?

No. Pointly has no account, sign-in, subscription or online service. Everything works offline and your data stays on your device.

Where is my data stored?

Players, games, rounds, scores and templates are stored locally in the app's own storage using Apple's SwiftData framework. They are not uploaded to us. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How do I back up or move my data?

Pointly has no separate export or import feature. Your data is included in a normal device backup (iCloud Backup or a computer backup) if you have backups turned on, and restoring that backup can restore the app's data. Sharing sends a text summary of a game's standings only — it is not a data backup.

How do I share results?

Tap the Share button on an active game, the results screen or a saved game. Pointly creates a plain-text summary of the standings and opens the iOS share sheet, where you choose the app or person to send it to.

How do I delete a game, player or all my data?

Delete a game from its detail screen or from the History list. Delete a player from the Players tab or their profile; their past games stay in history. To erase every game and player at once, open Settings and choose Erase all games and players — templates are kept. Deleting the app removes its data, subject to any device backup.

Why doesn't a game appear in History or Statistics?

History and statistics only include finished games. An unfinished game stays on the Home screen as an active game so you can resume it. Finish the game to add it to your records.

Can I play again with the same setup?

Yes. Open a saved game and tap Play again with this setup, or use Play again from a history row's context menu. Pointly creates a fresh game with the same players, teams and rules but no scores.

Does Pointly support iPad, dark mode and haptics?

Pointly is built for iPhone and iPad running iOS or iPadOS 18.0 or later, with an adaptive layout. In Settings you can choose System, Light or Dark appearance and turn haptics on or off.

Which games can I score?

Any game where each player or team gets a number per round. That covers most board games, card games, dice games and party games. Use “Highest wins” or “Lowest wins”, allow negative scores if needed, and set a round target to match your game's format.

Requirements

  • iPhone and iPad running iOS or iPadOS 18.0 or later.
  • No account or sign-in is needed.
  • Works offline; no internet connection is required.
